Dr. Hinkel Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) - Semi Dry: Dr. Hinkel amazes us with this flavorful and aromatic Pinot Noir. From sandy, clay soil, the rootstock has taken on a nice mineral composite that merges well with the delicate nature of Pinot. This wine pairs well with a variety of meats, cheeses and cuisine that is delicate to fanciful. It is full of berry aromas, warm tannins, opens very nice and as a Spätlese (late harvest) and halbtrocken (half-dry) goes down extremely easy.
Hans Lang Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) - Dry: Hans Lang has created exceptional Pinot Noirs for over 30 years. He has been at the forefront of aging Pinot in barrique barrels and has enabled German Pinots to reach the world stage. The terroir of Rheingau allows this finicky grape the cool air and microclimate needed to thrive. Match that with a vintner whose knowledge and production methods are outstanding and you will taste the pinnacle of German Pinot Noir. Soft as velvet and loaded with intense berry aromas, this wine is a pleasure to drink with most any cuisine.
Wasem Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) - Dry: The town of Ingelheim has planted Pinot Noir since the early Middle Ages, when Charlemagne brought over vines from Burgundy. With a microclimate similar to Burgundy, this wine is representative of a soft and well-balanced Pinot, with full berry, plum and lavender aromas. It has a silky smooth texture, is round in the mouth and finishes with a hint of soft tannins. Holger Wasem has done an amazing job with this wine and it is among our favorites. Pair this wine with simple to complex dishes as it is the most diverse food pairing Pinot that we carry. And it will also continue to open for hours on end, only improving...
Gutzler Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) - Dry: With a microclimate very similar to that in Burgundy and soil conditions on par, this wine typifies a full bodied, oak-aged Pinot with full berry aromas and smoky warm tannins. And yes, it is from Germany. A great balanced wine that is outstanding with a variety of game, meats, cheeses and most any cuisine. The Gutzler estate is a boutique VDP producer that continues to make wines of exceptional quality in very limited quantities - be sure to let this one breathe for awhile!
