The Bernkasteler Graben vineyard sits directly on the western border of the legendary Bernkasteler Doctor site. The wines from here are greatly undervalued. It's steep 60% slope right into the southern sun makes for wines of depth and complexity on par with some of the best sites in Mosel, and for a fraction of the price.
A densely deep yellow core colored wine exhibits significant viscosity in the glass. Sweetly defined, ripe fruit aromas leap out on the nose, evocative of exotic mango, guava, key lime pie, and mango candy. On the palate, the wine is dense but not cloying and smoothly caresses the mouth. The sweet residual sugar stays throughout the attack, mid-palate, and finish and is impeccably integrated with the acidity.
The maturity of this wine is starting to exhibit in secondary notes of dried honey, fragrant perfume, and toasted nuts.
Cuisine: Pairs wonderfully with warm apple studel, fruit gelatos, and napoleons.
