Saint-Veran is a region in Burgundy's Maconnais region, focusing on Chardonnay production in the land that surrounds Pouilly-Fuisse. Though there are no Grand Cru vineyards this far south in Burgundy, Saint-Veran has become an increasingly important Village of production as high-quality winemakers look for affordable land to make wines of value.
This wine comes from 40-year-old Chardonnay vines, hand harvested and fermented in stainless steel before transfer to neutral barrel for lees contact to give it a bit of weight and complexity.
Full of ripe and baked yellow apple, Meyer lemon, and jasmine blossoms, there is a nutty, creamy component to the wine as well. Easy drinking without being simple.
Pairings: Oily fish, hard cheeses, or a Wednesday evening!
