The 100% Syrah driven “Papillion” Crozes-Hermitage is a feminine and spicy style, with sultry elegance and silky finesse. Distinct dark fruit and floral aromas abound, with hints of dark chocolate and smoked meat.
From the Northen Rhone valley of France this wine hails specifically from Crozes-Hermitage, which is the largest of all the northern appellations of Côtes-du-Rhône. The vineyards lay around Hermitage, where the soil is richer and easier to work with. Crozes-Hermitage wines are less robust than Hermitage, but nevertheless, they are beautifully aromatic and fruity. This 100% syrah is sourced from vines approximately 15 years old. The Cuvée Papillion Crozes-Hermitage is a feminine and spicy style, with sultry elegance and silky finesse, just like its’ big brother, Cuvée Alberic Bouvet.
"Bright purple. Distinct dark fruit and floral aromas abound, with hints of dark chocolate and smoked meat. Spicy blackberry and cherry compote flavors are given spine by juicy acidity and pick up dusty minerality with air. A rich but energetic wine with very good finishing punch and a meaty quality.” –Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar.
Pairing: Grilled beef, lamb, veal and pork, chicken, game, duck, stews, braised foods and funky blue cheese.
