The Leth family is now the third generation to focus on wine-growing. While this doesn´t seem like such a long time, it has been long enough to create - with idealism, innovation and investment – one of the leading wineries in the Wagram region. From the very beginning, they´ve been winemakers of pure passion – beginning with Franz and Barbara Leth in the early 1960s; and then with sons Franz and Erich, who shaped the ´80s and ´90s, and now with Franz Jr., who recently became responsible for the estate´s wine line.
The “Steinagrund” vineyard (or “Stoanagrund”) is situated on the foot of the hillside, strictly south-faced at an altitude of around 220-240 m. The soil consists of stony gravel, slightly covered with Löss. Only healthy grapes from Grüner Veltliner - without any Botrytis - are used. After destemming and skin contact for around 6-8 hours, pressing is done by pneumatic press. The juice can settle then for about 12 hours; only the clear juice is used for fermentation, which is done by our own yeast selection in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. Kept on lees until February, it can develop a clear and pronounced fruit character as well as length and structure. This outstanding Grüner Veltliner is rich in fruit with a peppery spice, charming and full of finesse.
Pairings: Seafood, Grilled Chicken, Leafy Greens, Herbacious cuisine.
