La Rioja Alta has been making wine in the famed Rioja Region of Spain for over 125 years; this is the 75th anniversary of this particular wine being made. The Vina Ardanza is a blend of 80% Tempranillo, and 20% Grenache, each from single vineyards, though they are different vineyards. The 2008 is the first vintage that the wine has been created from entirely estate fruit, allowing for greater quality control at the winery. The wine sees 30-36 Months in American Oak, depending on which part of the blend is being treated.
The 2008 vintage is being hailed as one of the best in Spain in centuries. This earthy red is full of ripe and baked red berries surrounded by vanilla, clove, and dried herbs - dill, coriander, and nutmeg.
Pairing: Grilled sausages, herb crusted lamb shoulder, pork, veal, rib eye steak, cream pasta, red pepper broth.
