This Silvaner delivers a bright, citrus laden style that is super fun and totally different than many garden variety white wines. Silvaner is an indigenous varietal that is very pleasant stand alone and great with food, especially asparagus (very hard to pair with wine). This wine has fine notes of fresh cut apple and pear, mineral and stone texture and a vibrant attack on the palate. It finishes round and lush with nice acidity and length.
Weingut Wasem is located in the town of Ingelheim (for over 400 years), which has been planted to Vitus Vinifera since the early Middle Ages, when Charlemagne brought over vines from Burgundy more than 1000 years ago. This wine is representative of a classic German Silvaner with great pedigree and quality wine making behind it.
Pairings: Fresh fish and vegetables (especially white / green asparagus), poultry and shellfish, along with lighter meat dishes, like pork.
Winemaking has been part of the town of Ingelheim in Rheinhessen for almost 2000 years. At the Wasem Estate, grapes have been harvested since 1726. When Julius Wasem bought the 300 year-old estate in 1912, he laid the foundation for the winery as it exists today, particularly in his passion for the complicated and finicky Pinot family.

Rheinhessen is known as Germany’s largest wine producing region. Nestled between rolling hills, bordered to the west by the Nahe River and to the northeast by the Rhine, it is a very fertile land. Unlike along the Rhine or the Mosel, many other crops are harvested here in addition to the many vineyards that cover approximately 20% of the area. The better vineyard sites are in a concentrated area along the steep west bank of the Rhine, known as the Rheinterrasse (Rhine terrace), and towards the south near the town of Worms and around the village of Westhofen.
